That's one of the major reasons I broke away from the church when I was 18 and later ended up distancing myself from the New Age movement as well. There is a surplus of judgment and a lack of embracing marginalized people.
I never formed a connection with the church. Any church. And am not sorry. For all the talk of comfort and love the opposites seem to be more common.
ReplyDeleteMy son never has either. I was a devout Catholic when I was younger, and I certainly learned that if you're not an upstanding, middle-class, toe-the-line sort, you really are not welcome.
DeleteThe people at the little church in the town where I live now are nice enough. We go there for the food bank and have said we will help where needed. We don't attend services, though.
