NaPoWriMo 2020 Day 1 + April PAD Challenge 2020 Day 1: Escape on the Asphalt Sea

on an asphalt sea my son and I ride
as long as the weather is on our side
we make a journey to retrieve
items from a place that we must leave
on an asphalt sea

as the earth turned, so did the tide
fortune has not been on my side
I search for reasons to believe
on an asphalt sea

some days I do not mind the ride
other days I wish to escape inside
over the years there have been reasons to grieve
I examine the dreams that my mind may conceive
on an asphalt sea

notes
I combined the NaPoWriMo prompt with the April PAD Chapbook Challenge prompt AND the April PAD Challenge Countdown prompt. Go me!

Tan Renga Challenge 2019: Day 8: Autumn Begins

Image by Stefan Schweihofer from Pixabay

cricket silence
between scraping sounds
autumn begins
for me a new beginning
or perhaps the end of all

Note:
The Hokku (Haiku) portion of the poem was written by Jane Reichhold. The Ageku, or closing stanza, was written by me.
Come the fall, I should have pictures of the old hotel my son is buying to renovate. This probably sounds a lot more posh than it is. This building is in a town listed on the Colorado Ghost Towns website, and it needs a lot of work.
For me, this move is literally either a new beginning or the beginning of the end. I have run out of options.

NaPoWriMo 2019: Day 26 + Poems in April 2019 Day 26: Creatures of Colorado

Surely there will be
Birds in north Colorado
Maybe some red ones

Maybe there will be
Bears in north Colorado
I hope not too close

Maybe a ghost will
Haunt northern Colorado
That ghost will be me

Notes:
Will wonders never cease, I think I actually fulfilled the criteria for both prompts.
The NaPoWriMo prompt asked for repetition.
The Poems in April asked for writing about rebirth.
If my son and I do move to the small town mentioned in the previous poem, it will be a rebirth.
You see, even stopped clock is right twice a day.
