About Me Monday: I'm Losing Myself
I feel like I'm losing myself with all the energy I'm investing in submitting my work for publication in other places. I greatly prefer self-publishing but I'm terrible at promotion. I know that most of what an unknown author submits to publishers will be rejected while a well-known author could write about which foods give them the worst gas and everyone would fall all over themselves to publish it. It makes me tired.
I've lost the healing aspects of writing. I feel like I've been kicked out of my own universe. I don't really have anyone I can bounce these thoughts off. I just feel lost.

About Me Monday: Why Do I Write?
Spirit of the Universe, please help me overcome my doubts and my need for validation. Help me to find happiness in writing and in life now and help me to stop obsessing over what I "should" have done. I cannot be anyone else, I can only be me, flawed as I may be. I cannot do what everyone else thinks I should, I can only try my best. Please help me to write what is in my soul and not to worry about what anyone else thinks about it. Please help me to be the best person I can be and to encourage rather than tear down others who may be struggling with doubt themselves. Please help me to do my best. Amen.
I will be answering questions from 52 Weeks of Writing throughout the year. I am already two weeks late and several dollars short.
This book contains a wealth of resources for writers. It is currently only $8.99 on Kindle and well worth the price. If you purchase it through this link, I will earn a small commission.
The first question is:
When you first started writing, why were you called to write?
I must have answered this question a million times in my head, but I think my best answer is found in my review on Readers Roost. You can also learn more about the book there.
https://ornerybookemporium.blogspot.com/2022/01/52-weeks-of-writing-guest-post-and.html
I'm going to plagiarize the most meaningful portion of my review.
I had to think back close to 51 years and I'm still trying to think of an answer to this question other than "I don't know. It just felt right."
I learned to read when I was four years old and by the time I was six, I had graduated from Dr. Seuss to Edgar Allan Poe. The first character I created was a fish named Bruce. Fortunately for Bruce, his adventures were much more Seussian than Poe-esque.
This question threw me off balance because I believed that "I don't know, it just felt right" was a flip answer. It took me more than a week to realize that it wasn't a flip answer, it's the answer that six-year-old me would have given. I didn't need a reason to write other than it feeling right.
As I got older, it became ingrained in me to analyze everything until there was nothing joyful or organic left.
So, there you have it. By the way, I'm allowed to rip myself off. I have my permission.
It's the middle of the month and I'm struggling with myself. Doubt always surges at this point. I think I've mentioned before that the beginning of the month starts out hopeful so I take on too much. By the middle of the month, I'm overwhelmed and hate myself for it.
My disability check comes on the third Wednesday of each month. This provides a modicum of respite. It doesn't last long.
The end of the month brings the feeling that I can't possibly cock things up worse than I already have, opening the door for the hopeful stupidity that marks the start of the month.
There is a cyclic quality to this behavior, which is part of why for ten years I believed that I had type 2 bipolar disorder. At this point, I am quite certain that I do not, but the diagnosis made sense because of the pattern of behavior and because of family history.
The question is, what the fuck am I going to do about this?
The answer is, I really don't know. In the past couple of years, I have made significant improvements, but overall, I'm pretty well fucked.
I live on average fifty miles from the nearest city. Going for weekly therapy sessions would be tremendously inconvenient and they didn't help me much in the past. I might respond to therapy with an artistic component. Mostly what I want is for someone to be my friend for an hour once a week, not someone who is going to try and prescribe me pills. The pills don't work for me and when I say that the response tends to be that I wasn't using them right.
Fuck it. I'll keep working on fixing myself, although there is the risk of creating a monster with that approach.

Money Monday + About Me Monday: WTF is an Influencer?
Generally, I tend to see "influencers" as being fake. I don't do well with fake. I have no desire to be seen as a trend-setter. I don't care whether or not people think I'm attractive, and I am certainly not the height of fashion. I'm more like the anti-fashion broad.
I have something to say, but if I have to pretend to be something I'm not to get followers, then those are not the followers for me. I don't necessarily even want to be seen as a "leader." I make plenty of mistakes and if I decide to jump off a cliff, I don't want people jumping off after me just because I thought it was a good idea at the time. If I had my druthers, I'd like to be seen as a teacher who had the capacity to entertain.
I'm not an expert on...well, anything, really. I do know a little about blogging but I have a bit of a prickly personality and I don't play by the rules. I've been following a blogger named Janice Wald for several years now and I would recommend her to bloggers wanting to learn how to build a social media presence and monetize their online efforts.
There is a link to one of Janice's books at the end of the post. If you purchase the book through the link, I will receive a small commission from Amazon.
Janice has a weekly blog hop called Inspire Me Monday. I won't be linking there this week because this post isn't entirely family-friendly. My language didn't get too spicy, but my pal Critical definitely turns the profane heat up to Habanero!

About Me Monday + Inspire Me Monday + Inner Champion Workbook Chapter 8: Try New Things
I can cook, but the truth is, I'm a lazy cook without a lot of patience. Also, most vegan recipes leave me flat when it comes to flavor and hungry an hour later.
The person who reviewed this recipe book via Online Book Club tried some of the recipes. When she said that the "chicken" recipe she tried tasted like chicken and the author wasn't preachy about health or veganism, I knew I needed to give the book a look. I don't abide preachiness, and I don't need anyone triggering my abusive partner ED (Eating Disorder) to resurface.
Every Plate is a lot less expensive than other boxed meal plans, making it a good option for families on a budget, which is pretty much everyone these days!
My all-or-nothing thinking. My worst habit is to immediately tell myself how something will NOT work, and it always spirals into telling myself what a garbage excuse for a human being I am.
I don't know if I ever will entirely. However, I have to continue combating this thinking by telling my lousy inner critic to take a long walk off a short pier with raw steaks tied to them into a lake of hungry sharks and offering counter-points to her negative arguments.
This isn't the same as jumping into a potentially life-altering situation feet first without examining the potential repercussions. It simply means not telling myself that I'm trash for considering something in the first place.
Getting the Inner Jackwagon to shut up more often than not would help give me the confidence to make potentially positive changes. Believing in myself a little more couldn't hurt.
Also, regardless of what the rest of you may feel about reincarnation, it's something I consider to be a possibility. I don't want to drag all this negativity about myself into another lifetime! Talk about hauling around a psychic ball and chain.
Like the tattoo on my left outer calf says, born to lose, live to win. Thank you, Lemmy!
Before anyone decides that this is an appropriate moment to pop off about how much you hate tattoos, allow me to shut that nonsense down before it starts. I'm not forcing you to get a tattoo. This is my leg upon which I voluntarily got a tattoo that has personal meaning for me. I was 51 years old when I got this tattoo, thus, well and away old enough to decide whether such a thing was appropriate FOR ME.
You are welcome to not like or want tattoos. You are not welcome to tell me what I should or shouldn't like or want.
Seriously, I've had people start railing about their dislike of tattoos on a post where I was sharing a picture of a tattoo I had done in honor of a person who was terminally ill and who has since passed on. It was my first tattoo, and I was (and still am) quite proud of it. The person who felt it necessary to display their rudeness was, no doubt, trying to show everyone how stainless and pure they were by not having any of those icky tattoos. From my standpoint, they only managed to show their backside. Don't be that person.

About Me Monday: Controlling Parenting Backfires
- password protected my computer so i had to get permission every time i wanted to use it
- put a passcode lock on our pantry so we couldn’t eat without permission
- regularly checked our internet browsing history
- shut off the internet at regular intervals, including when i needed it for university homework
- did monthly checks of our bank statements and would confiscate money if they didn’t approve of our activities
- Never allowed me to close my door, ever
- on multiple occasions, when I was around 5-7, for reasons I can’t remember, took EVERYTHING I OWNED (every book, extra pillow, stuffed animal, piece of clothing that wasnt my school uniform, every toy etc) and put it in black plastic garbage bags in my room. I was not allowed to open them until the punishment was lifted (usually around 1 month)
- Made me text them every hour INCLUDING during school hours when I was 12
- They then took away my phone altogether because I was having conversations they didnt approve of
- They didn’t give me a phone again until I was almost 17, so when/if I needed them, I’d have to use a payphone (these are hard to find) and sometimes they wouldn’t answer, and I wouldnt have more change. (they only gave me enough for one call) so I ended up waiting at bus stops for several hours sometimes if I needed a ride home.
- My room could be ransacked randomly at any point, for any reason, and I was expected to clean up the aftermath
- Speaking of, every time I cleaned my room, it would have to pass ‘inspection’ which required for everything to be neatly organized in every closet. Books, papers, underwear, socks, everything folded neatly. If it wasn’t, I’d have to start over.
- Food I liked was locked downstairs in a cupboard with a padlock
- If I went into the kitchen, they would yell at me in case I was eating unsupervised
- Once isolated me because I was acting too “mentally ill”. I slept on a mattress in the floor in my room, couldn’t go out with anyone, didn’t have a phone, and they shut off my internet.
- Encouraged me to go on exchange to Uganda, and then stole my entire college fund before making me homeless (i also paid taxes on the 20k that they stole)
